Janis Phelps, PhD, MFT earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology (1986) from the University of Connecticut and has been on the staff of Recovery Without Walls for over 8 years. She has been a licensed Marital and Family Therapist since 1982 and a licensed Clinical Psychologist since 1987.
Dr. Phelps was Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the California Institute of Integral Studies for five years, where she currently teaches in the doctoral Clinical Psychology program and the East-West Psychology program. Her research and scholarly writing has focused on mind-body wellness, intentionality and mindfulness/shamanistic meditation practices. She is also director of the CIIS certificate program for physicians, nurses, psychologists, and licensed therapists in FDA-approved psychedelic-assisted therapy for PTSD, addiction, and end-of-life anxiety
Dr. Phelps’ consulting and clinical practice has a broad scope from individual and relationship therapy to divorce mediation. She serves clients in recovery and includes those challenged with chronic pain, chronic illness, stress and anxiety, depression, relationship problems, spiritual crises, and many other issues.
Her theoretical orientation is anchored in total mind-body wellness and ancient wisdom traditions.
